Strong Pitching by Jarrett, Extra-Base Hits Lead Bucknell Baseball to 11-2 Victory Over Mount St. Mary's

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Eric Jarrett pitched five innings of three-hit ball, Doug Shribman was 3-for-5, five different Bison posted multi-RBI games and seven of Bucknell's 14 hits went for extra bases as the Bison baseball team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 11-2, Tuesday afternoon at a sun-splashed, but breezy, Depew Field.
Bucknell (21-24), which has now reached double figures in runs in three straight games and four of its last five, tallied six runs in its final two at bats to break open a 5-1 contest. The Bison totaled 14 hits, including four doubles, one triple and home runs by Matt Lamore and Travis Clark.
Making just his second start of the year, Jarrett (1-0) earned his first victory as he yielded just three hits and one run to The Mount in 5.0 innings of work. The five innings marked the senior's longest outing since his sophomore campaign and he has now allowed just one earned run in his last nine outings (12.1 IP).
Daniel Hart, Dan Goldstein and Russell Seidell pitched the final four innings and allowed a combined one hit and one walk while striking out two. Mount St. Mary's did plate a second run in the ninth off Seidell, but that was thanks to a pair of errors.
Shribman, who recently broke Bucknell's career total bases record, came a home run shy of the cycle and scored two runs. He now has 369 total bases in his career, 14 more than second-place Tyler Prout.
Brett Ashley, Lamore, Scott Reed and Clark each collected two hits and drove in at least two runs.
A leadoff homer in the second by Lamore, his third of the season, got things started for the Bison and tied the score at 1-1. A David Duffett sac fly in the third gave Bucknell a 2-1 lead. Three big innings followed in the fifth, seventh and eighth.
The Bison sent eight hitters to the plate and scored three runs in the fifth. The big blow was a two-run double by Ashley, who made the start in right field in place of the team's leading hitter Gerry Runyan.
Clark hit a three-run homer run in the seventh, capping a four-run frame. He was the fourth of five consecutive Bucknell hitters to reach base. He now has four home runs on the season and has hit in eight of his last nine games played, raising his average from .247 to .305 during that span.
Shribman led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple to right-center that was just a foot or two from going out of the ballpark. He later scored on a line-drive double to left-center by Duffett that rolled all the way to the wall. Duffett then scored Bucknell's final run on a two-out single to left by Reed, who was 2-for-5 on the day.
Mount St. Mary's (12-25), which has now lost 12 in a row, used four pitchers in the game. Starter Marshall Thomason suffered the loss to fall to 0-1. He yielded seven hits and gave up five runs in 4.2 innings. The Mount's staff struck out 10 Bison, but issued six walks.
Bucknell, which is 7-6 at home this year, will travel to Penn State for a 6:05 p.m. non-league game Wednesday. The Bison will then wrap up the regular season this weekend at home with a pair of doubleheaders against Army. All four games against the Black Knights will be broadcast on WVBU 90.5 and SportsJuice.com.
