NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y./PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell women's rowing team split up on Saturday and competed at two different locations. The openweights faced Columbia on the Orchard Beach Lagoon in New Rochelle, N.Y., while the lightweights rowed against Princeton and MIT on Carnegie Lake in Princeton, N.J.
Bucknell finished second in each of the four races to Columbia, with the second varsity eight having the strongest showing, crossing the line just eight-tenths of a second behind the Lions. The Bison second varsity eight led at one point against Columbia, which advanced to the grand final of the 2010 Eastern Sprints.
The varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four and freshman four also rowed opposite Columbia.
“The varsity eight picked themselves up from last weekend's performance and had a great week of training,” said Bucknell head coach Stephen Kish. “Their hard work shined through. The team is in a good place and I am excited to see what happens over the next few weeks leading up to Patriots.”
“The second varsity eight followed up a good performance last weekend by making some productive adjustments this past week and had another good showing. Also, the frosh four followed up a solid Murphy Cup performance with another positive outing.”
The varsity lightweight eight and the second varsity lightweight eight each rowed against Princeton and MIT and the order of finish in both races was Princeton, Bucknell, MIT. The Bison finished more than 20 seconds ahead of Patriot League member MIT in both events.
Bucknell will split up again next week when the lightweights will row at the Knecht Cup Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, while the openweights will face Indiana, Louisville, Ohio State and Rhode Island on the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio.
