LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team will head back out on the road this weekend for a four-game Patriot League series at Navy. Doubleheaders both Saturday and Sunday at Navy's Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium will begin at noon.
The Bison, who are 2-6 in Patriot League play this year, will look to move up the standings and into postseason position. The top four teams in the league make the postseason and Bucknell is just one game behind Lehigh (3-5) and Holy Cross (3-5), who are tied for fourth place. Navy enters the weekend tied with Lafayette for second place with a 5-3 league mark.
A live video broadcast of all four games this weekend will be available via NavySports.com, while live statistics will be available through GameTracker.
Bucknell Baseball Notebook (14-20, 2-6 PL)
• Bucknell enters the weekend series at Navy coming off a win over Shippensburg on Wednesday. The Bison beat the Raiders by a 7-3 score at Depew Field, scoring five first-inning runs. The Mids lost a mid-week game at George Mason by a 13-6 score.
• The Bucknell baseball program has posted 1,197 victories since its first season (1886). With three wins this weekend, the Bison will reach 1,200 all-time victories. Head coach Gene Depew, who is in his 30th season, has been in the dugout for 559 of those wins.
• It is a tight race for the top batting average for the Bison this year. Gerry Runyan is hitting .327, while Drew Constable is hitting .326. Constable has hit in a team-best six straight games and has four multi-hit outings during that span. He is hitting 10-for-21 (.476) during the streak.
• Probable Weekend Pitching Matchups:
Saturday Game 1: RHP Dylan Seeley (1-5, 6.28 ERA, 22K) vs. RHP Ben Nelson (4-3, 5.85 ERA, 43K)
Saturday Game 2: LHP Ryan Ebner (4-1, 5.09 ERA, 34K) vs. RHP Johnny Schoberl (4-1, 4.61 ERA, 32K)
Sunday Game 1: RHP Trey Frahler (1-6, 5.11 ERA, 29K) vs. LHP Sam Long (3-3, 5.31 ERA, 33K)
Sunday Game 2: RHP Jack Boehm (2-2, 4.86 ERA, 22K) vs. RHP Taylor Cato (2-0, 6.65 ERA, 19K)
• Junior RHP Alex Cillo continues to have a long streak without allowing an earned run. He has not yielded an earned run in 18.1 innings, spanning 10 appearances. His ERA is a team-best 3.43, which would be second in the Patriot League if he had enough innings.
• Junior Bob Donato hit a pair of home runs last week at Holy Cross, giving him a career high-tying six this year. He now has 13 career home runs, putting him five shy of joining the program's career top-10 list.
• Doug Shribman, last weekend, moved into second place on Bucknell's career RBI list with 136, 21 behind all-time leader tyler Prout (157). His 32 RBIs this season rank second in the Patriot League. All 136 RBIs have come over the last three years as he was predominantly a pitcher as a freshman in 2008.
• Through games of April 10, Shribman ranked tied for sixth nationally with 11 home runs. The Bison were tied for ninth in the nation with 32 home runs as a team.
• Bucknell's team ERA is 4.19 over its last 30 games (6.32 overall).
• Dylan Seeley enters the weekend with 245.2 career innings pitched. That figured ranks fourth in program history, less than 20 innings behind record-holder Mike Anders (265.0).
• Trey Frahler struck out five last Sunday at Holy Cross, vaulting his career strikeout total to 149. He now ranks eighth in program history, five behind former teammate Mathew Wilson and eight behind another former teammate, Jason Buursma.
• Senior left-hander Eric Jarrett has pitched much better of late. He has struck out five and walked two while not allowing a run in his last six appearances (4.0 IP). Jarrett has six wins and an ERA of 5.93 while striking out 110 in 46 career appearances.
• Senior first baseman Doug Shribman ranks in the top 10 in program history in a number of offensive categories: batting average (t-10th, .337), slugging percentage (2nd, .655), on-base percentage (8th, .425), games started (10th, 139), at bats (8th, 510), hits (10th, 172), doubles (t-3rd, 40), home runs (1st, 38), RBIs (2nd, 136), total bases (3rd, 334) and walks (t-9th, 63).
• Dylan Seeley continues to have excellent control. He has walked just 11 hitters in a team-high 43.0 innings this year, averaging 2.3 walks per nine innings. In his career, he averages just 2.89 walks per nine innings, good for eighth-best in program history.
• In eight of its first nine wins, Bucknell scored five or fewer runs. Four of the last five wins have featured at least seven runs on the scoreboard for the Bison.
• Bucknell is 14-0 when holding opponents to five or fewer runs and 9-4 when scoring first.
