LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior first baseman Doug Shribman (Marblehead, Mass./Belmont Hill School) hit .364 with three home runs and five runs batted in and broke the program career home run record this past weekend at VMI. On Monday, he was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, making it two straight Bison to win that award.
Shribman, who leads Bucknell with six home runs and 14 RBIs this season, smashed two home runs in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against VMI, a 4-2 win. He then hit another homer in game two, upping his career total to 33. Shribman entered the weekend tied with former teammate Andrew Brouse atop the school's all-time home run list, but is now alone in first place. Shribman has hit 27 home runs the last two years, including 15 in his last 20 games.
The 2010 Patriot League Tournament MVP, Shribman recorded three of his team's four hits in the 4-2 victory and drove in three of the four runs. The two home runs in the contest gave Shribman his fifth career multi-homer contest.
With his 14 RBIs this season to boost his career tally to 118, Shribman is now in sole possession of seventh place in program history on that ledger. He jumped ahead of Kyle Walter and Jason Buursma and is just one behind sixth-place Russell Lindberg.
One of just three Bison to start all 10 games this season, Shribman is the second straight Bucknell player to be named PL Player of the Week, following junior outfielder Bob Donato, who was cited last Monday after four straight games with a home run.
Shribman and his Bison teammates will be back in action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Villanova for a 2:45 p.m. game. Live statistics for the contest will be available through GameTracker. Bucknell will bring a 3-7 mark into the game, while the Wildcats are 4-6 and just returned from a week-long spring break trip to North Carolina.
