Bucknell Department of Athletics and Recreation Participates in Diversity Workshop

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Recently, members of the Bucknell Department of Athletics and Recreation had the opportunity to participate in a diversity workshop, run by Stan Johnson, the president and founder of Stan Johnson & Associates. Formerly the Director of Professional Development at the NCAA, Johnson visited campus and conducted the workshop.
Johnson addressed Bison student-athletes in one session, head coaches and administrators in another, while support staff and assistant coaches made up the final group to take part in the educational and informative program.
The four-hour workshop included discussion among participants, group work and illustrative games, all with a focus on teaching diversity.
"Program opportunities, like the NCAA Fundamental Diversity Education workshop, not only support the University's strategic plan to enhance diversity, but also fosters continued dialogue, contributing to an environment that facilitates open exchanges and embraces the many differences that exist throughout our campus,” said Bucknell director of athletics and recreation John Hardt. “As a Department, we encourage and regularly emphasize the importance of fair, equitable and diverse programs. We recognize the value and productivity inherent to supporting a diverse staff and student-athlete population."
Johnson's visit to Bucknell was made possible by the NCAA, which annually conducts on-campus diversity education workshops at no cost to the participating institutions. (NCAA website)
While with the NCAA, Johnson's responsibilities included the development, implementation and administration of programs that enhance opportunities for ethnic minorities and women in intercollegiate athletics, specifically in coaching, athletics administration and officiating at the national, conference and institutional levels.
