LAKELAND, Fla. - Gerry Runyan hit a leadoff home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Bucknell baseball team a 5-4 extra-inning win over Indiana on Thursday. The Bison scored four runs in the top of the ninth to take a late 4-3 lead, but the Hoosiers scored one in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
With the win, Bucknell (8-8) has now captured eight of its last 11 games. The Bison also ended a five-game Indiana (11-6) winning streak.
Bucknell managed just one hit over the first eight innings and trailed 3-0 entering the ninth. The Bison then plated four runs on six hits in the ninth with a two-run single by Drew Constable the highlight of the frame. Travis Clark knocked in the tying run with a single, while a sac fly by pinch hitter Russell Seidell gave Bucknell the lead.
Indiana scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out single off Steve Carlin. Carlin then retired three of the four hitters in the 10th to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Hoosiers scored single runs in the first, second and fifth innings as they capitalized on nine walks by the Bison pitching staff.
Bucknell, which is 4-1 on its current seven-game trip to Florida, will take on Massachusetts Friday.
