LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell point guard Darryl Shazier was honored Wednesday as a member of the inaugural Riley Wallace All-America Team. Shazier was one of eight Division I seniors who have been a major part of their team's success by contributing in all phases of the game without a lot of national attention.
Joining Shazier on the team are Tim Abromaitis of Notre Dame, Jeff Allen of Virginia Tech, Bill Clark of Duquesne, D.J. Gay of San Diego State, Frank Hassell of Old Dominion, Rick Jackson of Syracuse and Joe Trapani of Boston College.
Shazier is a team co-captain this season and has helped lead the Bison to the Patriot League title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Bucknell will play Connecticut in the second round on Thursday at 7:20 p.m.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2010-11, Shazier leads the Patriot League in assists at 5.6 per game, and his 185-to-49 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks No. 2 in the nation. He has also averaged 8.3 points per game and ranks among the conference leaders in steals.
Shazier will play in his 126th career game on Thursday, one shy of the school record, and his 498 career assists rank fourth on Bucknell's all-time list.
The Bucknell-UConn game will be televised live on TNT, with radio coverage on Eagle 107 locally and Sirius/XM Radio and Westwood One nationally.
