LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman center Amon Dörries has made quite an impact in his first season of college basketball, and on Monday he was named to the PenFed Credit Union All-Patriot League Second Team and the Patriot League All-Rookie Team. He was also named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season.
Dörries scored 20 points on opening night against Delaware and has been productive ever since, averaging a team-high 16.1 points per game while shooting 53.9 percent from the field, 34.2 percent from 3-point range, and 78.4 percent from the free-throw line. He has been even better in Patriot League play, where he scores at an 18.6 ppg clip while shooting 56.4 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from the arc, and 77.3 percent from the foul line.
Dörries has scored 20 or more points in a game 10 times this season, with eight of those coming in the last 11 games. That includes a Bucknell freshman record 36 points in a home win over Boston University, and 28 at Lehigh on Saturday. He enters the Patriot League Tournament riding a streak of four straight 20-point games.
With 499 points, Dörries has shattered the Bucknell single-season freshman scoring record of 467, previously set by Gerald Purnell in 1974-75. Dörries is also set to become the first Bison freshman to lead the team in scoring since Bob Barry in 1976-77.
Dörries is Bucknell's first All-Rookie selection since Nana Foulland in 2015, and he is the first Bison to earn All-Rookie honors and also make one of the all-league teams since Mike Muscala earned a Second Team nod in 2010.
Bucknell will be the No. 8 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will host No. 9 Army in a first-round contest on Tuesday night at Sojka Pavilion.
