PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Playing its second match in less than 20 hours, the Bucknell men's tennis team lost at Duquesne by a 7-0 score Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Bison to 0-2 on the young spring season as they suffered a 6-3 defeat at Carnegie Mellon on Friday night.
The Bison lost all three doubles matches as the Dukes (3-2) claimed that point. Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) posted the closest score, losing by an 8-6 count at No. 2 doubles.
Playing at No. 1, Cohenca also put up one of the biggest fights in singles play as he lost to Aram Abjaryan, 7-6, 7-6. It was the second straight win this year for Abjaryan, who is now 3-2 this spring season.
Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye), who had won 12 consecutive singles matches in 2010-11, tried to make it 13 in a row, but lost by a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 score at No. 4. He was the lone Bucknell player to claim a set on Saturday by winning the first set against Mikhael Rasner.
Bucknell will be idle until next Sunday, Feb. 13, when it travels to Penn State. The Bison's first home match is scheduled for Feb. 19 against Georgetown at West Branch Tennis Club in Williamsport, Pa.
