After training incredibly hard for three weeks of preseason, it was so exciting to start the season off with a home game. We had a delicious team dinner the night before at an Italian restaurant, OIPS, filled with lots of garlic bread, pasta and laughter. We got unbelievably lucky as it was a beautiful day to battle St. Bonaventure. Although we were not able to pull out with a win, we showed composure, heart and dedication, as we continued to fight back against the Bonnies for an entire 60 minutes. It was clear from this game how we should move forward and what needed to be fixed.
In practice the next week we worked hard on our transition defense as well as offense. In addition, we worked on moving our feet on defense in order to move effectively as a defensive unit.
Our hard work certainly paid off for our second game of the season, and first away game. It was our first official road trip as a team and we all had a great time on both bus rides there and back. Between watching Finding Nemo, She's the Man and playing various games such as "initials" and "who has the hat," the bus rides were loads of fun.
Ultimately, we were able to prove which Bison herd is stronger. We set two new records with our score of 24-5: most points scored in a game and largest victory margin. Our attack moved the ball well, and found the open girl with ease. Molly Ford came up with five assists and Julia Braun scored a career-high six goals. It was also rewarding that each player was able to get some experience out on the field.
We cannot wait to face-off against Robert Morris this weekend!
