Bucknell Softball's Jessie Snyder Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Jessie Snyder (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) was named one of 30 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalists nationwide, it was announced on Wednesday. Snyder is the first Bison softball player to be selected to the prestigious group, which recognizes senior student-athletes for their achievements in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 2011 candidate class includes 21 student-athletes with cumulative grade point averages of better than a 3.0. Thirteen are from teams ranked in the ESPN.com/USA Softball preseason top 25 poll, and seven players competed in the NCAA Women's College World Series® last season.
In her nearly four years at Bucknell, Snyder has earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.82 while majoring in English. She is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and a seven-time honoree of the Bucknell Dean's List. Last spring she added ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District to her resume, distinguishing herself as one of the top student-athletes in the region.
Outside of the classroom, Snyder has been involved in several community projects, including the softball team's Bison Buddy program, working with local girls who have shown an interest in softball. She also has served as a coach at several of the team's clinics. During the summer of 2009, the Washington state native traveled to Mexico on a mission trip where she worked with orphaned and impoverished children.
Snyder has established herself as one of the go-to players on the field for Bucknell as well. Named a co-captain for the 2011 season, Snyder has spent much of her time at second base where she was named to the All-Patriot League First Team last year. She has also earned considerable playing time at shortstop throughout her career. Offensively, Snyder ranks 10th at Bucknell in career home runs and is just nine runs shy of entering the program's top 10 in that category as well. As a junior, she ranked second in the Patriot League in triples.
During the 2010 season, Snyder, who started all 47 games in which she played, helped Bucknell to several single-season records and even more top-five marks. At the end of that campaign, Snyder and her teammates ranked first in program history in wins (28), RBI (219), runs scored (249) and doubles (75). They were also second in walks (138), third in home runs (20) and fourth in games played (49) and triples (24).
Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the winner of the Senior CLASS Award April 3 at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Snyder and her teammates open the 2011 season at the Coastal Carolina Kickin' Chicken Classic Feb. 18-20 in Conway, S.C. The Bison won the Patriot League Championship last season and advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament. They closed out the campaign with a 28-20-1 ledger, tying a school record in single-season victories.
