WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell volleyball received most of its offense from Kebah Edoho, who tied for the team lead with six kills, but the Bison fell in straight sets to Army at Gillis Field House on Saturday evening. Katie Baumgartenalso tallied six kills in the season finale. Bucknell closes out its 2011 campaign with a 6-17 record overall and a 3-11 mark in the Patriot League.
Edoho's and Baumgarten's contributions did not do much for Bucknell's offensive power, however. The Bison, who have lost their last six matches by a score of 3-0, hit .129 in the first set, while Army (22-7, 12-2 PL) hit .378. That led to a 25-10 loss for Bucknell.
The Bison's attack percentage continued to drop throughout the rest of the match, hitting .121 in the second and .086 in the third. Army's went as high as .469 in the second frame, helping it to a 25-14 decision and a quick two-set lead.
Bucknell had its best look at taking a set off Army in the third despite the Black Knights jumping out to a 5-0 lead straight off the bat. The Bison hung around, eventually drawing within two points at 9-7 on a kill from Kyleigh McAhren.
Army eventually worked its lead back up to 10 points, but Bucknell again made progress against their opponent. Rose Lewis served back-to-back aces, and Kristen Titleyadded a kill for 23-21. A ball handling error from the Black Knights brought Bucknell to within a single point, capping off a 7-1 run. The last hurdle proved to be the toughest to clear. Army benefited from a Bison attack error, and Megan Wilton earned a kill to close out the match with a score of 25-22.
With seven kills and only one error of 15 attempts, Wilton was one of three Black Knights to finish with an attack percentage of .500 or better. She was topped in total kills by teammates Ariana Mankus and Margaux Jarka, who each tallied 12. Mankus complete the double-double with 12 digs as well.
For Bucknell, Kat Tauscher finished with 20 assists, and Emily Sawanobori had 13 digs. The Bison were limited to just one team block, which turned out to be a solo block for Anne Ellenberger.
Bucknell finishes the 2011 season tied for sixth in the Patriot League standings.
