
Strong Second Half Leads Bucknell Men's Water Polo to 10-6 Victory at No. 13 Princeton

LEWISBURG, Pa. –The No. 19 Bucknell men's water polo team improved to 3-0 against ranked teams this year on Saturday afternoon when it posted a 10-6 victory at No. 13 Princeton. The Bison, who moved into first place in the CWPA Southern Division, East Region, outscored the Tigers 6-2 in the second half.
Bucknell (8-2, 3-1 CWPA) led just 6-5 at the end of three quarters, but it tallied four fourth-period goals for its third consecutive victory. The Bison have now defeated No. 11 St. Francis, No. 16 Navy and No. 13 Princeton this year after going 3-10 against ranked foes in 2010.
Daniel Schwartz (Miami Beach, Fla./Ransom Everglades) led the Bucknell offense with three goals, while Alex Nowlin (Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro) tied him for game-high honors in points with four. Nowlin contributed one goal and tied Brian Barron (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) for team-best honors with three assists.
Julian Colina (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and Jack Else (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) added two goals apiece to give Bucknell three players with multi-goal contests.
Three-time CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week Matt Napleton (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) posted eight saves and one steal in cage. He limited the Tigers to just two second-half scores.
Bucknell, which will host Princeton on Friday night, was a solid 6-for-10 on six-on-five chances and it limited Princeton to just 4-for-11 in man-up situations.
Barron had a solid all-around outing as he registered a team-high four steals to go along with his three assists.
The Bison have now scored exactly 10 goals in each of their last three victories.
Princeton fell to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play as its losing streak extended to three games. Six of the Tigers' seven losses have been to ranked opponents.
Bucknell will open a four-game home weekend on Friday, Oct. 15, by hosting Princeton in an 8 p.m. contest. The Bison will also host Johns Hopkins, George Washington and Navy next weekend.
