LEWISBURG, Pa. - Beau Caillouette (Newport Beach, Calif./Sage Hill School) had a huge night with four goals and two assists, while Jack Else (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) tacked on four more goals to lead the 15th-ranked Bucknell men's water polo team to a 12-5 victory over George Washington in a Collegiate Water Polo Association matchup Saturday evening before another large crowd at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison, who defeated Johns Hopkins 12-10 earlier in the day, are now 10-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Playing the 1,000th game in program history, the Bison performed well at both ends of the pool in the win over George Washington. Bucknell raced out to a quick 4-0 lead, with Caillouette scoring three of those goals in a span of less than four minutes, and the Bison led by at least two goals for the final 30:01 of the contest. Defensively, goalie Matt Napleton (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) made 10 saves, and the team combined for eight steals. Bucknell allowed only one 6-on-6 goal all night.
While Caillouette had the hot hand in the first quarter, Else took over late. After the Colonials had pulled within 6-4 on a third-quarter man-up goal by Brian Mojica, Else scored on three straight possessions to give the Bison some breathing room. The last of those tallies was a neat backhanded shot with his back to the goal off a feed from Brian Barron (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick). Mike Kimble (Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes) then powered home a shot with 50 seconds left in the third period, capping a 4-0 run with his third goal of the contest.
Else scored his fourth of the night on a breakaway with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter, with the assist going to Napleton on a long outlet pass. Else also had an assist, giving him five total points, and he drew four ejections. Kimble had four points on three goals and one assist.
Barron added a goal and an assist, while Nick Barnett (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) logged three assists and Spencer Richley (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) had two helpers.
Mojica and Ridvan Pehlivan scored two goals each for George Washington (7-13, 1-4).
Bucknell swept the season series with George Washington, including a 10-8 win back on Sept. 25.
Prior to the game, Bucknell honored its five seniors: Caillouette, Richley, Barnett, Sam Fiske (La Jolla, Calif./Bishop's School) and Daniel Schwartz (Miami Beach, Fla./Ransom Everglades). All five started the game and helped stake the Bison to the big early lead.
Bucknell has one more game remaining in a busy weekend of league competition. The Bison face No. 17 Navy on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Kinney Natatorium. The game can be seen live on BisonVision.
