LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's track and field claimed two of three Patriot League awards on Monday, as Leonard Joseph (Whitesboro, N.Y./Clinton) was named the Field Athlete of the Week and Alex Prieto (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro South) picked up Rookie of the Week honors. Joseph won the weight throw, and Prieto earned a pair of top-five finishes in the horizontal jumps at Saturday's Gulden Relays.
Joseph took first place in the weight throw with a mark of 56 feet, 9 ½ inches at Bucknell's 10th Annual Gulden Relays last weekend, earning him the title of Most Valuable Field Athlete. The performance was a personal-best for the sophomore, who bettered his previous high mark by more than three feet and moved into seventh place on the Bison's program record list in the event. The mark also qualifies Joseph for the IC4A Championships in March for the first time in his indoor track and field career.
Prieto did his part for Bucknell in the field events as well. Competing in his second-ever collegiate meet, the freshman placed fourth in the long jump with a career-best 21-2 ¾. He later took fifth in the triple jump where his mark of 44-10 ¼ was also a personal best. Prieto's performance in the triple jump was the best by a Bison at the Gulden Relays.
The Patriot League honors are the first of both Joseph's and Prieto's career but the third of the season for Bucknell. Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) was selected the league's Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 6.
Bucknell will be back in action on Jan. 15 for Saturday Night at the Armory in New York.
