LEWISBURG, Pa. - Chris Sacks (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) claimed the first Patriot League honor of the year for Bucknell men's cross country, earning the league's Rookie of the Week title on Tuesday. The freshman won the Bucknell Open last Saturday.
Sacks took gold in his first collegiate meet, finishing the three-mile home course in 14 minutes, 56 seconds. Sacks bested teammate Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), who placed second overall, by just one second at Bucknell's West Fields. The two Bison were the only racers to complete the course in less than 15 minutes.
Although the Bucknell Open was a non-scored event, the Bison did well as a team in their only home meet of the year. Ten Bison finished in the top 12 in a field that also included Bloomsburg, Juniata and Susquehanna.
Bucknell will race again on Saturday, Sept. 18 when it travels to Duquesne for a tri-meet with the Dukes and Pittsburgh. Competition is set for a 9:45 a.m. start in Pittsburgh.
