Bucknell Women's Tennis Closes Play at Eastern Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell women's tennis wrapped up play at the Eastern Championships in West Point, N.Y., on Saturday. The Bison earned singles wins from Daria Tuzhikova (Minks, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) and Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) in the consolation rounds at the competitive tournament.
After falling in their singles matches yesterday, Tuzhikova and Lucido bounced back for victories in their respective singles draws on Saturday. Tuzhikova led off with an 8-3 decision over the seventh-seeded Margaret Iliev of Army. Lucido sailed past Ksenia Mikhaylova of St. John's 8-0.
Both of Bucknell's doubles teams fell in the quarterfinals. Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends Academy) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) fell 8-3 to Fordham's Mia Fiocca and Sarah Tremaine. Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) lost to fourth-seeded Mimi bell and Jenn Newman of Amherst by the same score.
The Bison will next be in action on their home courts when they host the Bucknell Invitational Oct. 1-3 at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
