LEWISBURG, Pa. - After a memorable weekend at the Bucknell Women's Golf Invitational, senior Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) has been named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week. Bouyed by a final-round 70, Jurenovich won her first career individual title while leading the Bison to a 19-shot victory in the team standings.
Jurenovich, one of the top players in the 13-year history of the Bucknell women's golf program, began the tournament with rounds of 73 and 78 at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club on Saturday. Then she really went low on Sunday, shooting even par while tying teammate Minjoo Lee's school record for low 18-hole round.
Jurenovich shot 221 for the tournament, tying Rutgers' Jeanne Waters for the individual lead while outpacing Lee, the day one leader, by one shot. Jurenovich then went on to beat Waters in a four-hole playoff to claim the individual title.
Her final-round 70 helped her team demolish the team 18 and 54-hole scoring records. Jurenovich, Lee and freshmen Kasha Scott, Lauren Bernard and Bridget Wilcox teamed up to shoot 296, smashing the previous 18-hole mark by seven shots. In addition, the Bison posted a 903 total for the tournament, breaking the team record by an incredible 40 shots. The previous mark was a 943 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Oklahoma in the spring of 2008.
After winning its second tournament in program history, Bucknell will be back in action Sept. 25-26 at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis.
