Bucknell Women's Cross Country Reclaims Top Spot in Patriot League Preseason Poll

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's cross country team was selected first in the Patriot League Preseason Poll on Wednesday. The Bison women were the overwhelming favorite, claiming 96 points and 12 first-place votes. The Bucknell men's team finished fourth in the poll with 63 points.
Trailing Bucknell's women in the poll was second-place Navy, which gathered 79 points and three-first place votes and third-place Army with 75 points. Colgate came in fourth despite earning a first-place vote and totaled 65 points. Lafayette (41 points), Holy Cross (38), Lehigh (34) and American (20) finished out the poll.
Navy earned the top spot in the men's poll for the second straight year with 97 points and 13 first-place votes. They were followed by American (86 points, three first-place votes) and Army (64). Lehigh was fifth with 60 points, while Holy Cross (33), Colgate (27) and Lafayette (18) rounded out the list.
The preseason poll is determined by the league's head coaches and sports information directors who cannot vote for their own team.
In other preseason polls released this week, Bucknell found itself in the top 15 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Regional poll. The women came in with an eighth-place standing, while the men were 11th.
Bucknell's women's team won its eighth Patriot League Championship in program history last season. The men's squad took third at the league meet in 2009. The Bison begin their 2010 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 4 when they host the Bucknell Open at the West Fields. The men's race is set for a 9:30 a.m. start, with the women's following at 10:15. Local foes Bloomsburg, Juniata and Susquehanna will complete the field.
