Six Bucknell Women's Water Polo Players Named to CWPA Scholar-Athlete Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the second time in two weeks six Bucknell women's water polo student-athletes have been honored for their academic accomplishments. The Collegiate Water Polo Association announced its Scholar-Athlete Team Tuesday and Bison Shannon Carroll, Alison Carter, Hallie Kennan, Tara Murao, Valentina Rozas and Becca Shopiro were among the 138 total players cited.
Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.20 to 3.40 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.70 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Bucknell had one player (Kennan) recognized in the Outstanding category, three (Carter, Murao, Shopiro) landed on the Superior list and two more (Carroll, Rozas) were cited with positions on the Excellent ledger.
Kennan, the team's leading goal scorer, was the lone Bison in the Outstanding category as she owns a 3.77 cumulative GPA, including a solid 3.75 this past semester. Only 35 student-athletes were in the Outstanding category.
Bucknell ranked 14th in team GPA with a cumulative 3.03.
In the pool, Bucknell went 17-10 in 2010, won its first-ever Southern Championships title and placed fifth at the Eastern Championship. It was the program's fifth above-.500 finish in the last six years.

Alison Carter (Superior Recognition) – First Team All-CWPA Southern Division; Third on career saves list
Tara Murao (Superior Recognition) – Third on team with 34 ejections drawn
Becca Shopiro (Superior Recognition) – 24 games played, 8 steals, 4 ejections drawn in 2010
Shannon Carroll (Excellent Recognition) – 3 goals, 7 assists, 8 steals in 2010
Valentina Rozas (Excellent Recognition) – Four-time all-conference selection
