Bucknell's Lightweight Four Wins Bronze at IRA National Championship Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (Cooper River) – The Bucknell women's rowing varsity lightweight four competed at the IRA National Championship Regatta for the first time in program history this weekend and claimed a bronze medal, finishing ahead of Radcliffe, Stanford and Georgetown in the grand final. Additionally, the Bison placed ahead of Princeton, which competed in the petite final after failing to qualify for the grand final.
The lightweight four qualified for the grand final by winning its heat on Friday, finishing more than three seconds ahead of Radcliffe.
Bucknell's varsity lightweight eight also raced this weekend and placed fifth in the grand final, ahead of Georgetown. The Bison were just over a second behind a strong fourth-place Radcliffe team.
The lightweight eight placed third in its head and second in the repechage on its way to the grand final.
The Bison have had plenty of success at the IRA National Championship Regatta in recent years with the lightweight eight finishing sixth in 2006, first in 2007, fourth in 2008 and second last year. The victory in 2007 marked the only national championship in school history.
