Bucknell Men's Water Polo Announces Recruiting Class

LEWISBURG, Pa. – A number of new names will grace the Bucknell men's water polo roster in the fall as Bison head coach John Abdou announced the program's latest recruiting class on Thursday. A total of 12 student-athletes are included in the men's water polo Class of 2014.
“The Class of 2014 fulfills many needs of the program in one shot,” explained Abdou, who led the Bison to a 17-14 record and a third-place finish at the Eastern Championship in 2009. “The incoming players will bring depth and competition to our roster at each position. There will be a positive effect on competitiveness by bringing in such a large group. The experience of the Class of 2010 will be missed, so this coming season we will count on these incoming players as much as our veterans.”
The 12-person recruiting class features newcomers from five states and Serbia. California is well represented with four student-athletes, while three more are from Florida and two from Pennsylvania. Included in the mix is a pair of high school teammates – Jose Mujica and Trevor Reitz – from Miami's Gulliver Preparatory School.

Head Coach John Abdou's Comments on Recruiting Class Members
On defensive players Mike Kimble and Jack Else:
“Mike and Jack fill our needs at the center and center defender positions. I expect both of them to make immediate impacts for us at those positions with their great experience and athleticism.”
On left-handed attackers Alex Nowlin and Stephen Norton:
“Alex and Stephen will join a core of very experienced lefties currently on our roster. Alex is one of the best defensive players to come out of this class nationally and Stephen has outstanding potential with the ability to post up as well as drive.”
On right-handed attackers Julian Colina, Sutton Cowperthwaite, Uros Markovic and Trevor Reitz:
“Julian, Uros, Trevor and Sutton will bring a lot to the table as right-handed attackers. All of them are winners and bring the attitudes needed to be successful on the college level. Furthermore, Trevor will be the first student-athlete since earlier this decade to both swim and player water polo at Bucknell. His speed, explosiveness and experience will greatly benefit both programs.”
On centers/center defenders Jose Mojica, Andrew Somers, Matt Wich and Hayden Yancey:
“Andrew, Hayden, Jose and Matt bring a great deal of depth to our center and center defender positions. Each has the skill, size and coachability to be successful at Bucknell.”
