LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell baseball senior Andrew Brouse (Kreamer, Pa./Midd-West) was named Second Team All-ECAC, it was announced Tuesday. The record-setting right fielder was the only Patriot League player recognized among the 24 total first- and second-team selections.
The All-ECAC honor is the latest in a long line of awards for Brouse, who was the Patriot League Player of the Year, a First Team All-Patriot League choice and a member of the Patriot League All-Tournament Team this year. He was also a First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2009. Additionally, Brouse is a two-time Academic All-District II honoree.
Bucknell's all-time home runs leader with 30 in his career, Brouse hit .365 with 17 home runs, 52 runs batted in and 60 runs scored this year. He was one of two Bison to start all 60 games and posted a .471 on-base percentage.
Brouse's numbers this spring placed him in the top 10 of 10 different Bucknell single-season lists. He is first in runs scored (60), tied for first in games played (60) and games started (60), second in home runs (17), total bases (143) and hit by pitches (18), third in at bats (211), fourth in hits (77), sixth in RBIs (52) and seventh in slugging percentage (.678).
While Brouse excelled as an all-around player, he made headlines for his power. His 17 home runs this year broke the previous Bucknell single-season mark held by Frank Fresconi by three. However, teammate Doug Shribman blasted eight postseason home runs to surpass Brouse's record total with 21 homers this year.
On a career level, Brouse is in the top 10 of 13 offensive categories in Bucknell history. He holds the home run record, including 27 the last two seasons. He is second in Bison annals in hit by pitches (26), tied for second in RBIs (130), third in total bases (318), fourth in doubles (38) and slugging percentage (.592), tied for sixth in games played (156) and runs scored (131), seventh in walks (65) and at bats (144), tied for seventh in stolen bases (34), eighth in games started (144) and ninth in hits (176).
Brouse, who was a member of the Bucknell team that defeated nationally ranked Florida State in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, helped the Bison to a second Patriot League Tournament title in three years in 2010. Bucknell defeated Army and Holy Cross in best-of-three series in the postseason to qualify for its fifth NCAA Tournament. The Bison faced South Carolina and Virginia Tech in the NCAA Regionals and finished the season with a 25-35 record.
