LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Nick Donahue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville), a member of the Bison men's water polo team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 4.
Donahue won the Ronald J. "Pete" Pedrick Award, presented to senior athletes "in recognition of demonstrated improvement and special contributions to Bucknell athletics over a four-year period." Donahue shared the award with Mary Wilson of the women's rowing team, who was the female selection.
In addition to Donahue, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
Donahue had an outstanding final two years at Bucknell, recording 427 of his 474 career saves over that span. He was an Honorable Mention All-America selection this past fall when he stopped a career-high 214 shots, posted an impressive .518 save percentage, played in all but one game and was in cage for nearly 750 minutes. Donahue was also named Second Team CWPA All-Southern Division this past fall, his first career all-conference citation.
After not registering a double-figure save performance through the season's first 11 games this past fall, Donahue piled up nine games with at least 10 saves in a 16-game stretch. During that streak, he totaled 149 of his 214 stops. Included in that streak was a 17-save outing against George Washington, the most stops in a single game by a Bison netminder in five years. Donahue's strong senior campaign followed a junior year where he made 213 saves, recorded a .520 save percentage and made 27 starts.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 15 of 19 years, including 11 of the last 12.
