LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Kim Weaver (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), a member of the Bison women's rowing team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 4.
Weaver won the Alvin F. Jackson Jr. Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award, presented to senior athletes "for outstanding academic and athletic achievement and future promise as Bucknell alumni." Weaver shared the award with Patrick Selwood of the men's soccer team, who was the male selection.
In addition to Weaver, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
Weaver has been a key member of Bucknell's lightweight eight over her four years. She was a member of the 2007 lightweight eight that won the only national title in school history and she helped the 2009 lightweight eight to a second-place finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta.
Most of Weaver's time has been spent with the lightweight eight, but she has contributed to Bucknell's five consecutive Patriot League titles.
In addition to her success on the water, Weaver has been strong in the classroom, posting a 3.91 cumulative grade-point average. She is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, a Collegeiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete and a seven-time Dean's List member. Weaver was the lead author on a paper detailing the healing rates of wing punch wounds in little brown bats.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 15 of 19 years, including 11 of the last 12.
