LEWISBURG, Pa. - Coming off an amazing three-game Patriot League Tournament Semifinal Series at Army where he hit .615 with four home runs and nine runs batted in, Bucknell junior first baseman Doug Shribman (Marblehead, Mass./Belmont Hill School) was named the College Baseball 360 Primetime Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.
Thanks to Shribman's bat, fourth-seeded Bucknell (23-32) advanced to this coming weekend's Patriot League Championship Series at No. 3 seed Holy Cross. The right-handed hitter belted at least one home run in each of the three games last weekend and now has a Bucknell- and Patriot League-record 17 this year. Twelve of those home runs have come against Patriot League opponents.
Shribman's four home runs broke the Patriot League Tournament record, while his nine RBIs tied the league's postseason standard. He also scored seven runs and registered two doubles during the three-game series. Additionally, Shribman played flawlessly at first base, handling 28 chances without an error.
Overall this year, Shribman is hitting .372 with 17 home runs and a team-high 53 RBIs. He has recorded 16 doubles and scored 39 runs.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection this year, Shribman owns the Bucknell single-season record for total bases (142) and is among the top 10 in the Patriot League in nine offensive categories, including batting average, hits, home runs, runs scored, doubles, RBIs, total bases, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
On a career level, Shribman ranks fifth in program history with a .364 batting average and is third in home runs with 23. His .649 career slugging percentage is second in school annals, while his .448 on-base percentage is sixth.
Shribman and the Bison will open the Patriot League Championship Series Friday at 6 p.m. at Holy Cross' Fitton Field. Games two and three (if necessary) will be played Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
