LEWISBURG, Pa. – Coming off non-league losses to Penn State and Canisius earlier this week, the Bucknell baseball team returns home to host Patriot League opponent Holy Cross at Depew Field Saturday and Sunday. The first game both days will begin at noon. Sunday's twinbill will have a live radio broadcast on WVBU 90.5 in Lewisburg and online at Sportsjuice.com.
This matchup marks the end of the Bison's 11-game road trip where Bucknell won just two of the 11 games. The Bison will play 14 of their next 17 at Depew Field. Following the four-game series against Holy Cross, Bucknell's next home opponent is league foe Navy, April 17-18.
Bucknell Baseball Notebook (12-19, 2-2 PL)
• The Bison lost a heartbreaking one run game to Penn State on Tuesday, 7-6. Less than 24 hours later Bucknell dropped a pair of contests at Canisius, 10-5 and 7-1. The losses extended the Bison's non-league losing streak to nine.
• After the midweek games, Ben Allen is tied for second on Bucknell's all-time runs scored record list with 134 (Tyler Prout). Allen and classmate Andrew Brouse are tied for the team lead in runs scored with 31 this year, a figure that also tops the Patriot League.
• Andrew Brouse and Ben Yoder are now tied for the team lead with seven home runs apiece. That duo finished 1-2 on the team in home runs last year when Brouse hit 10 and Yoder smashed seven. Brouse is now tied for fourth on the program's career home run list with 20 (Frank Fresconi), while Yoder now has 15 in his career after hitting just one his first two seasons.
• B.J. LaRosa is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak. He posted a career best 12-game streak earlier this year. Yoder, Drew Constable, and Matt Lamore have each hit in their last five games played. Yoder has collected at least one hit in 21 of 24 games this season, and 33 of 36 dating back to last April.
• Ben Allen has played in 156 career games for the Bison. He now is tied for fourth in program history in games played with John DiBonaventura. Allen has made 114 consecutive starts at shortstop.
• Bob Donato has a Patriot League-high 11 doubles on the season, placing him two shy of 10th place on Bucknell's single-season list. This almost doubles his 2009 total of six. He now has 17 career doubles. Doug Shirbman and Yoder are not far behind with nine on the season.
• With his Patriot League-leading 35 RBIs this season, Andrew Brouse now has 113 in his career. That figure is tied for fifth on the Bucknell career list. Ben Yoder is poised to become the eighth member of the 100-RBI club as he enters the weekend with 97 career runs driven in.
• Bucknell players are leading the Patriot League in 10 different individual categories: home runs (Brouse/Yoder – 7), runs (Brouse – 31), doubles (Donato - 11), RBI (Brouse – 35), stolen bases (Brouse – 10), total bases (Brouse– 70), walks (Brouse – 21), inning pitched (Seeley – 42.0), appearances (Dallanegra – 12), games started (Trey Frahler - 7).
