Bucknell Men's Tennis Wins Second Straight with 5-2 Decision Over Colgate

LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the first time this season, Bucknell men's tennis recorded back-to-back victories with a 5-2 win over Colgate at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. With some help from a doubles sweep against the Raiders (7-6, 2-2), the Bison (5-10, 1-1) have now won two of their last three matches.
Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) and Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) got things started with an 8-6 decision over the Raiders' Michael Yassky and John Nogueras. Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) then kept things going with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Alec Goldstein and Harry Jewett.
Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Ryan Marcil (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward's) completed the perfect run but not without some difficulty. The final doubles match went to a 9-8 decision, but it was Bucknell over Phil Bernasek and Ruslan Goussiantnikov at No. 2.
Having claimed the doubles point, the Bison kept the success rolling with four singles wins. Kovic was pushed to the limit against Yassky at No. 1, but the Bison junior came back after losing a second-set tiebreak for the 10-5 win in the super breaker.
Cohenca, Zimmer and Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) had an easier time in their wins, each finishing in straight sets. Cohenca defeated Bernasek 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Zimmer won at No. 5 over Sean Spellburg, 6-3, 6-2. Maxson continued his winning ways with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jewett.
After three straight matches in Lewisburg, Bucknell will leave the friendly confines of its home court and travel to West Point, N.Y., for its next match. The Bison will face Army at 3 p.m.
