Bucknell Men's Tennis Ends Season with 4-0 Loss To Navy in Patriot League Semis

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 2 Navy in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The third-seeded Bison were unable to pull off the upset in their fourth consecutive semifinal appearance, dropping their final season record to 9-12.
Bucknell kept things close through doubles play. Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) defeated Jeremy New and Eddie Konrad at No. 3 doubles, 8-4. That evened the first half of play after the Bison's No. 1 team fell 8-1 to the Midshipmen's Owen Bullard and Nicholas Gutsche.
Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Ryan Marcil (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward's) tried to keep Bucknell's hopes alive at the No. 2 position. The duo extended play well until after the other two matches had ended. Navy's pairing of Ramsey Lemaich and Nick Birger prevailed in the end, however, breaking Cohenca's serve in the final game for a 9-7 victory.
With their win at No. 3 doubles, Katten and Zimmer ended their freshman season with six straight wins together. They also finish their spring season with a 10-1 doubles record.
Navy pulled away in singles play, and only Katten had a good look at a win. Katten was leading Anderson Walls at No. 3 singles 6-3, 3-2 when play was called. Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)), Cohenca and Zimmer took losses to give the Mids the team victory that advances them to tomorrow's championship match against Army.
