NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. - Bucknell men's tennis swept the doubles matches but could not pull out its second win of the season, falling 5-2 at Niagara on Friday. Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) was the lone Bison to tally two wins on the day as the senior also earned a victory at sixth singles.
Bucknell (1-6) started the day strong, getting wins in all three doubles matches. Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) and Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) teamed up at the No. 1 position for the win over Jeremy Quiroz and Matthew Kane. Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Hascoe claimed the win at second doubles, 8-5, and Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and Clark Bogle (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy) were victorious at third doubles.
Despite the early success, the Bison struggled later in the day. Hascoe won at the sixth position, 6-4, 6-1 over Jordan Tedesco-Blair, and Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) pushed his match at the fifth position to three sets, but no other Bucknellian could earn a set at singles.
Maxson recovered from dropping the opening set 6-1 to David Lemieux-Sarrasin by earning the second-set victory at 6-4. The Bucknell sophomore was unable to maintain his progress into the third, however, falling 6-3.
