LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's cross country received All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday. The Bison posted a team grade-point average of 3.44 for the fall semester, earning accolades for the second consecutive year.
Bucknell was one of six institutions from the Patriot League to receive recognition from the national body. A record total of 176 Division I women's programs received USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.
Bucknell is no stranger to academic awards this year. The Bison placed a league-high 22 runners on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll earlier this year. Leading the way were Kelly Desharnais (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane Regional), Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem), Gabrielle Skovira (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) and Caroline Tolli (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), who all earned perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall term.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
Bucknell won the 2009 Patriot League Championships, earning the title for the eighth time in program history. Three Bison were named to All-Patriot League teams and head coach Kevin Donner earned Coach of the Year honors at the league meet. Bucknell went on to place 12th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships two weeks later.
