LEWISBURG, Pa. - Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) scored 14 goals, dished out four assists and registered the game-winning score against Maryland, helping the Bucknell women's water polo team to an impressive 3-0 record this past weekend. For her efforts, Kennan was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday, receiving the award for the first time in her career.
Kennan, who entered the weekend with 70 career points, had a hand in over half of Bucknell's 35 goals on the weekend. The Bison defeated league rivals No. 19 Princeton (15-10), George Washington (10-7) and Maryland (15-14 in OT) at Kinney Natatorium to improve to 12-7 overall and 4-0 in CWPA Southern Division play.
A left-hander, Kennan tallied a career-high seven points against both Princeton and Maryland, while her score just over two minutes into sudden death overtime handed the Bison the one-goal victory over the Terps. She finished with a career high-tying six goals against Princeton and five more opposite Maryland, boosting her season total to a team-high 46, 14 more than anyone else on the team.
Kennan's six goals against the Tigers tied her six-goal performance last month vs. Iona for the most goals by a Bison this year, while her seven-point games are the most points by a Bucknell player in 2010.
In addition to her offensive exploits, Kennan drew five ejections, including a career-high four against Maryland, registered four steals and had one field block. She did all of this coming off the bench in all three games. In fact, the sophomore has appeared in all 19 games this year, but has made just 10 starts.
Kennan is now second on the team with 60 points this year, eight behind leader Kandis Canonica. She has scored at least one point in all but two games and has 12 multi-goal contests.
Kennan is women's water polo's first Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week since April 5, 2009, when Aubrey Rowe earned the award. It is the third weekly award this year for Kennan, who was named the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week twice earlier this month.
Bucknell and Kennan will wrap up the 2010 home schedule next Wednesday, April 7, against nationally ranked Hartwick at 7 p.m. at Kinney Natatorium.
