LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's rowing team has claimed the last four Patriot League titles and on Friday it was announced by the league office that the Bison are once again favored as they were picked first in the league's preseason poll. Bucknell garnered eight of the 12 first-place votes with Navy grabbing the other four.
The preseason poll nearly mirrors the final standings from last April's Patriot League Championships, which Bucknell won with a record-tying 30 team points thanks to first-place finishes in all three events. After the Bison and Mids is new Patriot League women's rowing member MIT, while Holy Cross, Colgate and Lehigh round out the final three spots in the poll.
This is the fourth consecutive year Bucknell has been atop the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
The Bison have had plenty of success at the Patriot League Championships in recent years as the varsity eight has been named Boat of the Year four straight years and Stephen Kish has claimed Coach of the Year honors three times in the last four years.
The Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J., will host the Patriot League Championships for a third consecutive season. This year's event will take place on Sunday, April 25.
Bucknell, which opened its 2010 spring campaign last weekend against No. 3 Virginia, will be in action this Sunday at the Occoquan Sprints in Fairfax, Va.
