Bucknell Baseball's Brouse, Seeley Honored by Patriot League After Strong Florida Trip

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell baseball team had a very strong weeklong trip to Florida and on Monday two of its players were cited for their performances by the Patriot League. Senior outfielder Andrew Brouse (Kreamer, Pa./Midd-West) was named Patriot League Player of the Week after hitting a team-best .429 in six games last week, while junior starting pitcher Dylan Seeley (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) posted a 0.64 ERA in two starts, helping him earn Patriot League Pitcher of the Week plaudits for the first time in his career.
Brouse, who was named Patriot League Player of the Week following the Bison's 2009 Spring Break trip to Florida, hit .429 with one home run and eight runs batted in over the final six games of the trip. He also scored eight runs and totaled five extra-base hits. His final RBI, which came in the first inning of a 4-3 victory over Northwestern that capped the trip, was the 100th of his career, placing him seventh on the Bison all-time list.
Bucknell's cleanup hitter, Brouse posted three multi-hit games last week and drove in at least one run in four of the six games. His best outing came in a 19-5 thrashing of North Dakota State when he was 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and four runs batted in.
One of four Bison to start all 18 games, Brouse is now hitting .342 on the year with three home runs and 22 RBIs, both team highs. He now ranks tied for 10th on the Bucknell career home run list with 16.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2009, Brouse has played an errorless right field this year. He also has stolen seven bases, three shy of his career high.
Seeley was nearly unhittable in his two starts down in Florida as he pitched 14.0 innings and yielded just 10 hits, eight of which were singles.
In his first start in Florida, Seeley went 6.0 innings and allowed four hits and one run while striking out three and walking none against North Dakota State. He retired the first 10 hitters and faced one over the minimum through five innings.
Five days later, Seeley was strong again against Northwestern, working 8.0 innings and leaving the game with the Bison up 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth. The Wildcats touched Seeley for just a pair of unearned runs and six hits. The lanky right-hander struck out a career-high seven and walked three as he got a no decision thanks to a pair of ninth-inning runs by Northwestern.
Overall, Seeley went 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in his two appearances in Florida.
A durable pitcher, Seeley has lasted at least five innings in each of his five starts this year and has posted at least three strikeouts in each contest. He is second on the team with 24 strikeouts this year, just one shy of his career high. Additionally, his 4.06 season ERA tops all Bison starters and he now has 10 wins in his career thanks to a 2-2 mark this spring.
Bucknell (10-8), which went 5-2 on its trip to Florida, was scheduled to host Le Moyne on Tuesday, but that doubleheader has been pushed back to Wednesday because of the weather forecast in Lewisburg. First pitch against the Dolphins will be 1:30 p.m. (March 24). It will be the first game to take place on the new FieldTurf that was installed at Depew Field during the offseason.
