LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The Bison sophomore totaled eight goals in three games over the weekend at the ECAC Championship, helping Bucknell to a fifth-place finish at the event.
Due to a battle with the flu, Kennan played limited minutes in Saturday morning's opening loss to Maryland, but she bounced back to net a career-high six goals later in the day in a 17-16 overtime victory against Iona. The sophomore left-hander tallied the tying goal in the closing seconds of regulation and later registered what proved to be the winning score in overtime. Kennan's six goals are the most by a Bucknell player this year.
After coming off the bench in both games Saturday, Kennan returned to the starting lineup Sunday and helped the Bison to a 9-7 victory over Harvard with a pair of goals and one assist.
In three games at the ECAC Championship, Kennan tallied eight goals, one assist and one steal.
On the season, Kennan leads the team with a career-high 18 goals and is second on the squad with 22 points. She also has four steals and a pair of ejections drawn.
Last year Kennan was honored twice as the CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week, but this is her first career Player of the Week citation.
Kennan and the Bison will be back in action this coming weekend (March 6-7) at the Elite 8 Tournament at Indiana. Bucknell will play its opening game against nationally ranked Michigan Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
