LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior attackman Tim Brandau (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) has been named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the first time after producing the best scoring totals of his career in Saturday's 13-9 road victory over Towson. Playing not far from his hometown, Brandau tallied six goals and two assists, and he was the catalyst for Bucknell's game-changing fourth-quarter surge.
The Bison trailed Towson 9-7 entering the fourth quarter, but Brandau had four goals and an assist as Bucknell outscored the Tigers 6-0 in the final 10:06 of the game.
Brandau scored three straight goals to put Bucknell ahead 10-9, and in the final two minutes he assisted on one insurance goal and scored yet another, helping the now 13th-ranked Bison get to 2-1 on the season.
For Brandau, his six goals, eight points and five ground balls were all career highs. The six goals are now the most by any active Bucknell player, and the eight points are second only to the nine picked up by Austin Winter in the team's last trip to Towson in 2008.
Brandau opened the season with four goals in a 12-11 overtime loss to then-No. 2 Duke, and he now has 11 in three games in 2010. He leads the Patriot League and ranks 15th nationally in goals per game, and his goal total ranks fourth nationally.
In the Duke game Brandau went over the 100-point mark for his career, and with 87 goals he is closing in on the 100-goal mark as well. His 87 goals now ranks No. 10 on Bucknell's career chart, and he is aiming to become only the fifth 100-goal scorer in program history.
Bucknell opens its Patriot League schedule on Saturday with a critical game against Navy. The rematch of the 2009 Patriot League championship game will take place at 3 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and will be televised live on CBS College Sports.
