LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell baseball senior catcher B.J. LaRosa (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) played just one game last week, but he was good enough in that one outing to pick up a pair of weekly awards. LaRosa was named both the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week and the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday.
LaRosa's lone appearance last week came on Sunday in an 18-6 victory over UMBC, during which he was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four runs batted in. He hit a solo home run in the third inning and also drove in a run on a single in the fourth and two more with another single in an eight-run fifth inning.
The multi-hit game extended LaRosa's hitting streak to 10 games, and he added another hit during Monday's 19-5 win against North Dakota State to stretch it to 11 games in a row with a hit.
A starter in all 11 games he has appeared in this season, LaRosa is hitting a team-best .511 this year with four doubles, one home run, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has been a key cog in the experienced Bison lineup that is averaging better than nine runs per game and outscoring its opponents by 46 runs.
LaRosa has registered at least two hits in all but two games this season and has now driven in at least one run in five consecutive games.
Bucknell (7-6) will continue its Spring Break trip to Florida on Tuesday morning with an 11 a.m. game against Yale in Auburndale, Fla.
