Bucknell Baseball Notebook (5-6, 0-0 PL)
• Bucknell lost to Villanova 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bison faced a 5-0 deficit, but battled back to tie the score. However, the Wildcats plated what proved to be the winning run on an eighth-inning infield hit.
• Bucknell has yet to play a home game this year. The Bison will play their first home contest on Depew Field's new FieldTurf on March 23 vs. LeMoyne.
• Bucknell is 5-2 over its last seven games. The Bison's current 5-6 mark is their best start to a season since they were 5-2-2 in 2008.
• Doug Shribman and Ben Yoder will enter the Florida trip with 10-game hitting streaks intact. Dating back to last season, Shribman has hit in 28 of his last 29 games. Additionally, B.J. LaRosa (nine games) and Andrew Brouse (7 games) enter the trip on lengthy hitting streaks.
• With 17 hits this year, Ben Allen has moved into a tie for seventh place on the Bucknell career hits list with 160. The senior also ranks in the top 10 in program history in at bats (6th, 485), runs scored (7th, 115), sacrifice flies (t-10th, 7) and sacrifice bunts (t-7th, 9).
• B.J. LaRosa has played in nine of Bucknell's 11 games this season. In those nine contests, he has registered a team-best eight multi-hit games. He leads the Bison with a .526 batting average and is over halfway to surpassing his hit total from all of last year when he was the team's starting catcher.
• Seven Bison are hitting over .300 so far this season. Last year, Bucknell has six players finish the campaign over .300. Only one of those six graduated.
• Bucknell's four best ERAs this season are by relievers Andrew Clarke, Michael Dallanegra, Eric Jarrett and Steve Carlin. That quartet has given up just five earned runs in 24.2 innings for an ERA of 1.82. Overall, the Bison bullpen owns a 3.46 ERA with 16 earned runs allowed in 41.2 innings.
• Bucknell's pitchers continue to maintain a strikeout-to-walk ratio of nearly 2-to-1. The Bison have struck out 72 hitters and walked just 37. Trey Frahler leads the team with 18 strikeouts. Only five Bison had more than that figure last year.
• Ben Allen has made 94 consecutive starts at shortstop for the Bison.
• Ben Yoder has four consecutive multi-hit games and is hitting 10-for-20 (.500) with eight runs scored over that span.
Up Next
• Bucknell will play its home opener on Tuesday, March 23, against Le Moyne. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and will be the first of 16 regular-season games slated for Depew Field this season.
