Rare Midweek Game for Bucknell Women's Water Polo Thursday at George Washington

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After 10 non-conference games to start the season, the Bucknell women's water polo team will open league play Thursday at George Washington with a 7 p.m. game. The contest will also kick off the squad's five-game California Spring Break trip as the Bison will fly to the west coast on Friday.

Bucknell is coming off a difficult weekend at the Elite Eight Tournament in Bloomington, Ind. The Bison went 0-3 and were outscored 38-26 while giving up double-figure goals in all three games against the field that featured five ranked teams. The schedule was challenging as Bucknell faced a top-10 team in Michigan and a top-20 squad in Brown.
Bucknell has gone 10-2 in CWPA Southern Division games over the last two years. The Bison will play six of their final 12 regular-season games against league foes George Washington, Maryland and Princeton.
Bucknell's next victory will be the 200th in program history. The Bison program, which began in 1999, is 199-167 (.544) all time.
Bucknell is 1-1 in overtime games this year. The Bison have played six extra-session contests over the last two years and are 3-3 in those games.
Bucknell's 13-12 overtime loss to Harvard this past Sunday marked the first time the Bison had registered double-figure goals in a loss since 2007.
Junior Kandis Canonica broke Bucknell's career assist record this past weekend at the Elite Eight Tournament. The left-hander now has 143 assists, one better than Adrienne Schober's previous standard that had stood since 2002. Canonica is averaging nearly 1.8 assists per game over the course of her career.
The current Bison team has three of the top 11 scorers in program history as Valentina Rozas (274), Kandis Canonica (270) and Shana Palencia (210) are in the top-11 on the program's all-time points list.
Senior goalie Alison Carter went over the 100-save plateau for the season at the Elite Eight Tournament. She now has 104 stops on the year, more than halfway to her 2009 total of 176. Carter has registered six double-figure save outings this season, equaling her total from last year.
Kandis Canonica has tallied at least two points in every game this season. She leads the squad with 35 points.
Hallie Kennan leads the Bison with a career-high 23 goals this spring. She has scored in nine of the 10 games and has six multi-goal contests.
Bucknell will play five games in California next week. The Bison will take on Cal State San Bernardino, UC Santa Barbara, Chapman, Concorida and UC Irvine. Bucknell has a combined 9-5 all-time record against those five teams.
Bucknell will be playing fewer games on its California trip than it has in the past in hopes of staying fresher for the championship portion of the schedule in April and May. This year's Spring Break schedule features five games. Bucknell's California game total in recent years: 2004 (10), 2005 (9), 2006 (7), 2007 (10), 2008 (7), 2009 (10).

After its return from California, Bucknell will have just six regular-season games left on its schedule, with four of those at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison will host league foes Princeton, George Washington and Maryland the weekend of March 27-28.
