LEWISBURG, Pa. - For his efforts in helping the Bucknell men's basketball team to a pair of Patriot League victories last week, freshman Mike Muscala (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. The 6'10" forward tallied 29 points and 17 rebounds in victories over Lehigh and Army, which have the Bison positioned just one game out of first place in the league standings.
Muscala recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Lehigh game. He scored four of Bucknell's points in a 10-0 run to end regulation, and his two clutch free throws with 30 seconds left in the game sent it to overtime. He scored two more points in overtime, helping the Bison to an 81-76 victory.
On Saturday against Army at Sojka Pavilion, Muscala scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 55-48 victory over the Black Knights.
For the season he is averaging 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and his 46 blocked shots are the most in the Patriot League. In conference play, Muscala leads the team in scoring (13.8), rebounding (6.7), blocked shots (3.0), field-goal percentage (.557) and free-throw percentage (.882).
Bucknell is 9-14 overall and 4-3 in the Patriot League and sits just a game behind co-leaders Lehigh and Lafayette in the league standings. The Bison next travel to Navy on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start.
