BRONX, N.Y. – Bucknell men's cross country ran on the strength of its experience as five of the Bison's top seven finishers were seniors at the IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. It was the sophomore D.J. Krystek (Pitcairn, Pa./Gateway Senior) that led the team, however. Krystek was 32nd individually with a five-mile time of 26 minutes, 36 seconds, while Bucknell placed 14th as a team.
Trailing their younger teammate were the squad's elder statesmen Timothy Ryan (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna), Ian Shore (South Orange, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep School), Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.Y./Pope John XXIII), Michael Ryan (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) and David D'Alessio (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest). For the first time this season, Timothy Ryan tallied points for the Bison. His time of 27:07 earned him 60th place. Shore (27:10) and Smith (27:15) were close behind in 63rd and 67th, respectively.
Krystek's finish was a comeback of sorts. The sophomore scored for the first time since the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 16.
Bucknell took 14th place in the team standings with 298 points. Temple won the team championship with 111 points behind senior Mike May, who took the individual title in a time of 25:24.
Although Bucknell's cross country season is now over, the Bison have plenty to look forward to with track and field season on the horizon. The Orange and Blue's indoor season begins on Dec. 4 with the Bison Opener at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
