LEWISBURG, Pa. - At halftime of Wednesday night's Bucknell-Binghamton men's basketball game, a special presentation was made in honor of one of Bucknell's finest, John Zeller, Class of 1941. Through the generosity of the Charles B. Degenstein Foundation, the Sojka Pavilion video board was named in his honor.
John Zeller graduated from Bucknell in 1941 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. After serving his country in World War II and the Korean War and graduating from law school at Penn, he became a full-time member of the political science department at Bucknell in 1952. In 1955 he became the university's chief financial officer, and he later held titles of Vice President for Business and Fiscal Affairs and General Counsel Emeritus, and in 1984 he was President of the University prior to the appointment of Gary Sojka.
At Commencement ceremonies at Bucknell this past May, Zeller received the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters. His citation noted that he was "an exemplary student, faculty member, administrator and alumnus; whereas he has enhanced almost every aspect of University life during his lengthy career; whereas he has been a lifelong supporter and benefactor of his alma mater; and whereas he exemplifies the best of Bucknell."

In retirement, Zeller has remained in Lewisburg and has been a trusted confidant to many at Bucknell. He has also remained a loyal fan Bison Athletics and still attends many of the games. The naming of the video board in his honor commemorates all that he has done for Bucknell over the past 70-plus years.
Presiding over the halftime ceremony were Bucknell director of athletics and recreation John Hardt and Sidney Apfelbaum `42 of the Degenstein Foundation.
