LEWISBURG, Pa. - Days after yet another standout performance the Patriot League Cross Country Championships, Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Fulmer was a First Team All-Patriot League honoree last Saturday, helping Bucknell to a second-place team finish at the championship meet.
Fulmer completed the Easton, Pa., course in a time of 20 minutes, 36 seconds, marking the first time in her career she has run better than 21 minutes over six kilometers. The finish also put her in sixth place overall and earned the junior first-team all-league honors for the third consecutive season.
With her championship performance, Fulmer became the first Bison to be named to the first team three times since the Patriot League split its awards into two tiers in 2002. She is also just the third runner in the Patriot League to claim at least three first-team honors since that season, joining American's Keira Carlstrom, who was a first-team selection 2002-05, and Navy's Emily Castro in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Fulmer placed second at the Patriot League Championships as a freshman, earning Rookie of the Meet accolades as well, and sixth last year as a sophomore.
Bucknell finished second as a team with 64 points at the Patriot League Championships last weekend. The Bison have finished in the top two of the team standings in each of the last six seasons. Colgate won the team title with 42 points.
Fulmer began her junior campaign with back-to-back victories at the Bucknell Open and the Duquesne Tri-Meet. She also earned the top spot for the Bison in four of her five meets this season.
The Bison Athlete of the Week award is Fulmer's second of the season and the fifth of her career. She was also named Bucknell's top athlete on Sept. 20 after winning the Duquesne Tri-Meet.
Bucknell will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 13 when it travels to University Park, Pa., for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Championships. Races at Penn State's Blue & White Golf Course are set for a 10 a.m. start.
