Lucido Moves On to Final at Bucknell Tennis Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bison women's tennis' Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) found her stride at the Bucknell Invitational, advancing to the Flight A singles final at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday. Lucido registered a pair of straight-sets victories to qualify for her first championship match of the fall.
After enjoying a first-round by yesterday, Lucido opened play on Saturday with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Fairleigh Dickinson's Julia Prantl. The senior co-captain had a similarly easy time of Jen Learmonth in the semifinals. Lucido downed her Connecticut opponent 6-4, 6-2.
Lucido will now face Fairleigh Dickinson's Elmine Botes in tomorrow's final. The two have already met once this season with Botes coming out on top 6-4, 6-3 at last week's Eastern Championships.
Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) battled in their second-round singles matches in Flight B. After winning the first set 6-2 against Alexa Gregory of George Mason, Tuzhikova stumbled 6-1 in the second. Gregory then closed the match 10-5 with the win in the super tiebreak. Tuzhikova came back later in the consolation rounds with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Connecticut's Lauren Wilmarth.
Vidrascu also went the distance in the Flight B singles main draw. The freshman rebounded from a 6-3 opening-set loss to Connecticut's Abby Mckean but was unable to hold serve in the second, falling 6-0. A close 10-point tiebreaker went in Mckean's favor, 10-8.
Joining Tuzhikova with victories in the singles back draw were Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham), Elizabeth Morgan (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield School) and Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation). Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) and Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) also advanced through the back draw in Flight A singles.
