Morque, Malloy Advance to Third Final at Bucknell Tennis Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bison men's tennis kept its strong play going into the second day of its home tournament at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday, sending Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) to the singles finals at the Bucknell Invitational. Morque and Maxson will be joined in the championship round by the doubles team of Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School).
Morque improved his singles record to 9-0 on the season. The sophomore defeated Colgate's Bobby Berkowitz 7-6, 6-2 in the second round of Flight B. He then faced a tough opponent in Pat Mulquin of George Mason in the semifinals but came out in front, 7-5, 7-5.
The final will be the Morque's third in singles this season. As the only undefeated Bison left, he will face Connecticut's Ryan Carr in tomorrow's championship match.
Also making his third final in as many tournaments will be Malloy. The senior co-captain made his first final-day appearance in singles at the Northeast Intercollegiate two weeks ago. Last weekend, he and Cohenca then advanced to the final at the UConn Invitational before falling to teammates Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) and Scott Bernstein (Westfield, N.J./Westfield).
To reach the Bucknell Invitational final, Malloy and Cohenca knocked out Colgate's Conner Feuille and Sean Spellberg 8-5. The Bison will take on Mark Hemy and Guillermo Paiz of Fairleigh Dickinson for the Flight B title tomorrow.
Maxson will be looking for his first tournament title in Flight C singles on Sunday. The junior won smoothly 6-2, 6-2 over George Mason's Mike Phaup in the second round to advance for a semifinal matchup with Malloy. Malloy, who battled with Fairleigh Dickinson's Guy Goren but lost 6-3, 3-6, (11-9) in the second round, saw his day end at Maxson's hands by a score of 7-5, 7-5.
The Bison will close out the tournament and their fall home schedule tomorrow at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
