FAIRLAWN, Ohio -- Freshman Bridget Wilcox (Bernardsville, N.J./Taft School) posted a 4-over-par 76 in the second round to help the Bucknell women's golf team to a third-place standing after 36 holes of the Zippy Invitational, hosted by Akron at Rosemont Country Club. Playing in windy conditions that made scoring very difficult, the Bison played well all day and turned in rounds of 324 and 316. That trails only host Akron and Grand Valley State with 18 holes remaining.
Wilcox opened with an 80 in Monday's morning round, then came back with a 76 in the afternoon. He 36-hole total of 156 is tied for eighth. Fellow rookie Kasha Scott (Cherry Hills Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) recorded a pair of 79s and sits in 12th place.
Ohio native Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) shot 83-79, freshman Lauren Bernard (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) had rounds of 83-82, and junior Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) posted 82-86.
Host Akron shot 622 over the first 36 holes and has a 14-stroke lead over second-place Grand Valley State (636). Bucknell is four shots out of second. Ohio is fourth at 643, followed by Detroit (648), Oakland (649), California (Pa.) (654), Marshall (656), Bowling Green (662), Eastern Kentucky (663), Allegheny (669) and Cleveland State (672).
Grand Valley State's Sarah Hoffman has the individual lead with a total of 149 (76-73). Bowling Green's Susannah Grunden is two back, while Bucknell's Wilcox is seven shots off the pace.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
