LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field swept the Patriot League/M-F Athletic Field Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week categories on Tuesday. Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) and Sarah Bella (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) were named the league's top field performers, while Quinten Marcott (Wayland, Mich./Wayland) and Sasha Hornock (Dover, Pa./Dover) were recognized as the leading rookies.
Anthony won the triple jump at the Bucknell Heptagonal last Saturday with a season-best distance of 49 feet, 5 1/2 inches. It was the fourth consecutive meet in which the senior finished first in the event as well as the fourth consecutive meet in which he surpassed the IC4A Championship standard. Anthony also placed second in the long jump at the Bison's meet with a mark of 23-5 1/4. The distance was a season-best and qualified him for the IC4As in his second event.
Anthony ranks second all-time at Bucknell in both the indoor and outdoor and triple jump as well as fourth in the indoor and outdoor long jump.
Bella took the meet title in the shot put with a throw of 46-1 3/4. That mark ranks third all-time in Bucknell program annals and qualifies the sophomore for the ECAC Championships in March. It also allowed Bella to finish in the top four in the shot put for the sixth indoor consecutive meet, dating back to last season. Bella's performance at the Bucknell Heptagonal in the weight throw also earned her team points as she finished sixth with a mark of 47-6 1/2.
Bella is also the university's record holder in the outdoor shot put and ranks eighth in the discus.
Marcott placed fifth in the shot put. The freshman's throw of 47-1 was less than one foot shy of his career best mark, which he set in his first intercollegiate meet in December.
Hornock scored in all three events in which she was entered - 60-meter dash, 200 meters and long jump. The freshman placed third in both the 60 (8.04 seconds) and the long jump and sixth in the 200 (27.17). Hornock's long jump mark of 17-8 1/4 was a career best. The freshman previously set the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 60, finishing in 7.99 seconds at the Akron Quad a week ago.
The Field Athlete of the Week is the fifth of Anthony's career and the first of Bella's. It is also the first weekly citation from the league for both Hornock and Marcott.
Bucknell is back in action this weekend when it hosts the Bison Open & Multi. Competition at Gerhard Fieldhouse begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29 and concludes on Saturday.
