Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Easily Defeats Army, 183-112

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Jamie Chakany (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) each posted multiple victories for the Bison as the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team defeated Army, 183-112, Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool. The Bison defeated the Black Knights for the ninth consecutive time and improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 against Patriot League foes.
Bucknell posted 11 first-place finishes overall, winning 10 of the first 12 swimming events before swimming only exhibition in the 200-yard individual medley and 400 freestyle relay.
Chakany (1,000 free, 500 free), Keath (100 breast, 200 breast), Mongan (100 free, 200 free) and Russell (100 back, 200 back) combined for eight total individual victories. The Bison also swept the first three places in the 1,000 free, 200 free, 100 back, 200 back and 500 free.
In addition to her first-place showings in the 100 and 200 free, Mongan was also part of the winning 200 medley relay squad, which posted a time of 1 minute, 47.90 seconds. She was the lone Bucknell swimmer to earn three first-place medals.
Chakany led 1-2-3 sweeps in both of her victories. She recorded a season-best time of 10:35.54 in the 1,000 free, finishing ahead of teammates Anna Griest (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster School) and Christine Shepherd (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville). Chakany timed in at 5:11.40 in the 500 free with Griest and Kelly Purcell (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) each within three seconds.
Keath, the school record-holder in both breaststroke events, swept them for the second time this year. Morgan Oxley (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) was in second in the 100 and Elizabeth Porcellio (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) was the runner-up in the 200.
Russell posted her second-best time of the year (59.12) in the 100 back and tied with classmate Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) for first in the 200, swimming the distance in 2:08.35. Atkinson also took second in the 100 back.
Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), who won the 50 free in 24.35, her fifth first-place showing in the event this year, and Allison FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal Academy), who won three-meter diving with a score of 223.65, posted the other victories for the Bison. FitzPatrick also set a season-best off the one-meter with a score of 235.20, but she took second.
Bucknell will be back in action Sunday afternoon when it hosts Columbia at Kinney Natatorium. The meet begins at 1 p.m., but prior to the start Senior Day festivities will take place and each of the Bison's nine women's and seven men's team members will be recognized.
