WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team was looking to make it two consecutive Saturdays with Patriot League road victories, but the Bison fell at Army by a 178-117 score Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool. Bucknell is now 4-3 overall on the season and 3-2 against Patriot League foes.
Matthew Segar (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) and Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) posted victories for the Bison.
Segar won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 42.53 seconds, nearly two seconds ahead of runner-up teammate Christian Treat (Evergreen, Colo./Clear Creek). Segar later took second in the 500 free with a season-best time of 4:44.19, just .13 off his personal best.
Fletcher won the 100 back in 52.44 as he was the lone Bucknell swimmer in the top four of the race. He later earned points in the 200 IM. His time of 1:56.77 was the second-fastest in the field, but Army's swimmers exhibitioned the event, meaning Fletcher earned first-place points for the Bison.
Sokolosky won the 100 free for the second consecutive meet, timing in at 46.98. He has now won the event three times this year and has five top-three finishes.
Jonathan Podniesinski (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) had a solid meet with a season-best time (9:48.52) in the 1,000 free en route to a second-place finish. He also had a top-three showing in the 500 free, finishing one spot behind Segar in 4:46.35.
David Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro Area) was Bucknell's lone diver, finishing second off the one-meter board (217.95) and fourth off the three-meter (244.05).
The Bison will not have much time to rest as they host Columbia at Kinney Natatorium Sunday at 1 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will be held prior to the non-league meet.
