Bucknell Women's Cross Country Picked Second in PL Preseason Poll

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's cross country team was picked second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll on Wednesday. The Bison women's squad earned gathered 87 points, including three first-place votes, in a vote of the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Bucknell men's cross country placed fifth with 55 points.
Navy was picked as the preseason favorite on both the men's and the women's side. The Navy women garnered 97 points and 13 first-place votes after winning the Patriot League title in 2008. Following Navy and Bucknell were Lehigh (67 points), Army (58), Colgate (41), Holy Cross (40), American (38) and Lafayette (18).
The top of the men's vote was equally close as Navy took 95 points and 11 first-place votes, followed by Army with 89 points and five first-place tallies. Trailing the Black Knights were American (69 points) and Lehigh (61) in third and fourth place, respectively. With the Bison in fifth, Holy Cross and Colgate tied for sixth (31), and Lafayette rounded out the vote with 15 points for eighth.
Bucknell's women's team finished second in the Patriot League Championships last season, while the men took fifth.
The Bison's 2009 season starts on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Colgate Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y. The first race is scheduled for 11 a.m.
